Vertical Garden Planter
Maximize your space with this easy-to-build vertical garden planter for herbs and flowers.
Introduction
Vertical gardening is the perfect solution for small balconies or patios. This project uses reclaimed wood to create a beautiful, tiered structure.
Step 1: Gather Materials
You will need the following items:
- 4 Cedar boards (1x6)
- Exterior grade wood screws
- Landscape fabric
- Potting soil and herbs
Step 2: Cut the Frame
Cut your main support boards to 4 feet in length. These will act as the “legs” of your vertical planter.
Support Legs: 2 x 48"
Planter Boxes: 6 x 18" (front/back)
Box Ends: 6 x 5"
Step 3: Assemble the Boxes
Screw the front and back boards into the end pieces. Drill small drainage holes in the bottom of each box to prevent root rot.
Step 4: Attach to Support
Space the boxes 10 inches apart along the support legs. Ensure they are level before driving the screws.
# Pro Tip: Use a spacer block to keep the gaps even between boxes.
Step 5: Planting
Line each box with landscape fabric, fill with soil, and add your favorite herbs like basil, mint, or rosemary.
